I have taken Joan's classes and am a graduate of her Communication With All Life University. Love the classes and love the book. This book gives you some very simple but very effective little tips for communicating with your own animals. Very helpful and very insightful. If you are at all interested in communicating with your own animals it's a definite MUST have. Joan is a wonderful teacher and it continues in this book.

Best book there is on Animal Communication., May 9, 2012

Joan Ranquet's style of teaching is wonderful. She brings Animal Communication alive, and makes it easy to understand and put into practice. Joan makes it clear from the start that this is something anyone can do; rather than being a "special gift" it is more a "muscle" that needs to be exercised. Following her exercises and reading her examples will take the reader from observer to actually becoming an animal communicator. This door can then be opened as far as the reader wants to take it. Joan makes communicating with animals, whether or not they are your own companions, as simple as learning your ABC's. The guided meditation is a great bonus, helping you to truly relax and clear your mind so that you really can hear the animals' messages... without the clutter of daily life getting in the way. Besides being a terrific author, Joan also gives great workshops and has a unique program, for those that want to delve in a little deeper, through her "Communication With All Life University. If Animal Communication is your interest, this is the person that can teach you. Enjoy!!

Best book I have read on how to learn Animal Communication, March 8, 2012

I am a big fan of Joan's teachings, in fact I am a graduate of her Communication With All Life University. I felt, even though I have taken years of her classes, this e-book is like no other animal communication book I have ever read. It provided me with wonderful reminders of all the information I learned. This is great for anyone at any level. This e-book is an excellent refresher for what I learned at Joan's workshops, and it puts all the information into a very easy to use, reference format. It is also great for someone who is just taking their first class, as this is a wonderful companion book to the teleseminars or workshops. It will help to let you know what you will learn, and it's as if Joan took the best notes ever for you.

Reading through this reminded me of important information that I have forgotten when taking the workshops, there is so much to learn and some instances don't come up all the time, so therefore you may not remember all the suggested ways to handle situations you will have with a customer and their pet. You will find very helpful information, no matter what level of animal communication you are at, like the example Joan gave of how you can recommend something for a client, by saying "We could think about... or We could look at.". This was particularly helpful because it is easy to forget some of the important ways of wording the information we receive from the animal and how to deliver it to their guardian in a way that doesn't off put them. Because if we get good information and then deliver it in a way as to put them on the defensive, you may have lost the opportunity to help them and their animal companion.

I had such an amazing time throughout the entire University experience and I really value what I learned not only in workshops and teleseminars, but in the live interaction with people and their pets for homework. And the fact that as a graduate of almost two years ago, I am still able to get these e-books and continue my education and remember important tools and tips to grow my current animal communication business. I also appreciate that she saw enough importance in my journal entries and my "homework notebook" to use my examples in this book of how we progress and learn to trust the information we get.

As Joan mentions in her book, my biggest experience with not trusting the information I received was when I talked to a rescue horse and I got lots of information that made sense to me and the lady who knew the horse. The one thing I got that I couldn't make sense of, and hesitated to pass along, was that one of the horses favorite things was a butterscotch candy. Now, I have horses and I know they like peppermints, but butterscotch, I had never experienced that. So, I pass it along and it meant nothing to the lady I spoke with. I let it go and hoped the rest of the what I read her was valid. Then the next morning at 7:30 AM, I got a call and she said she passed along what I got from the reading to the other lady that fed and took care of this horse. She told her about the butterscotch candy and the other lady said, "no one could have known that, I had peppermints for all the horses and ran out. So I dug in my purse and all I had was a butterscotch candy, so I gave it to this horse...wow I had no idea she liked it that much" What this also did for me and the client was validate that I had truly connected to this horse and that what I got was valid and helpful to the horse and the people taking care of it. Some of the information I provided also helped them to determine the proper home for this rescue horse, so it was a great success for all of us. I hope that my experiences now can help others to believe in themselves as they go through and learn this important work.

I am really looking forward to the upcoming books in this series as I think these will be the most complete, comprehensive training manuals on animal communication in publication, and help you to do this as a profession and be successful.

This book is written by a couple of professors not technicians and it certainly shows. If you enjoy reading a college textbook this is for you. If you are looking for real-world tricks, tips, and insight you will not find it here. Why in the world is there a chapter devoted to motors? Why is there nothing about using ESR meters? I read the first 2 chapters then tossed it.

I needed a book to help me with my supervisor, whom after 11 years working together successfully, was not responding to any communication attempts by me. (She is an Ostrich...according to the book)

I did not like the title of the book since it sounded manipulative, however, I was very glad I picked it up to see the contents. I used the "plan" on her and finally felt I had control. You can't change another person, but you can change your approach with that person. The outlines are easy to read and quickly tell you what won't work, what to try, and what to do if that doesn't work. It is not exhaustive, however, it offers a excellent starting point...which was all I really needed.

Suggestion: Buy the book, Scan through the second half of the book first to find the most relevant personality/traits. Read about that personality and go back to the front of the book to continue reading about that personality. (footnote type numbers lead you to the proper place in the front of the book)

I finally read the entire book and had some flattering and not so flattering realizations of myself which I have been addressing.

I think this book helped me get a promotion (away from that supervisor). My director saw the way I handled a no-win situation successfully. (I never told him or anyone else about the book.)

I have read (and re-read) this book and only find more contradictions the more I read. For example, the authors say that behaviors come from our attitudes and that while attitudes look like "the best target" to alter they aren't because it's really the offensive behavior that you are out to alter. They go on to say on the next page that "we identify people rather than behavior as the problem" - "there are no problem performers only problem performances." Hmmmm. Didn't we just say on the last page that our behavior (hence our performance) is based on our attitudes? I guess the performance > behaviors > attitudes thing is not a two-way street! This book is really about changing YOUR behaviors around the "44" challenging types. I walked away from this book feeling like I had been given a huge laundry list of things not to do or say to these 44 types (as it might offend them or stress them out) and only a short list of weak options, at best, that had any impact on really changing their behavior. The sum of this book: be considerate of others and play nice -eventually they will treat you like a human being....

Helpful for anyone in a corporate setting, September 16, 1999

Although the title is somewhat misleading, this is a pretty good book for anyone working in a corporate environment. A more accurate title for this book would have been "How to communicate effectively with different types of people in your organization", because that's exactly what this book may help you to do. Anyone experiencing "communication problems" in their organization could benefit from the examples and suggestions provided by Deep and Sussman. I especially recommend this book for anyone working in the Human Resource department and anyone else with coaching or counseling responsibilities. A Welcome Guide to Empathy, June 1, 2009

Every inspirational mentor and manager that I've worked with has stressed the value of empathy in building personal and professional relationships. Conversely, most "difficult" people I've encountered have had problems seeing a situation from another person's point of view. I wish I could buy every one of these problem people a copy of this book and force them to read it.

Being the type of person who is very skeptical of most self-help manuals and who avoids the pop psychology "I'm OK, You're OK" approach to relationships like the plague, I was pleasantly surprised by the common sense logic and methodical approach take in "Understanding Other People." It effectively straddles the worlds of management theory and psychology and is full of real-world examples that really bring the book's concepts to life.

The book is sometimes funny, sometimes profound and always helpful. It's helped me see my relationships in a new light and I highly recommend it to anyone who has to deal with other people on a daily basis (which I guess means everyone).
